Book charity wins Longford Prize
A charity that has been purchasing educational books for prisoners since 1996, Haven Distribution, has won The Longford Trust‘s 2018 Prize.
At last night’s sold-out Longford Lecture, Why do people stop doing crime?, the panel chose the low-profile work of the organisation as they wanted Haven Distribution to be publicly applauded for sending books into prison. The charity purchases books for prisoners’ courses to a maximum of £20 per person per calendar year.
The lecture featured Channel 4′ s Jon Snow alongside Longford scholars and was broadcast live to prisons by the Prison Radio Association.
