Anna Herrmann
Advisory Group Member
Anna Herrmann is Artistic Director/Joint CEO of Clean Break.
Anna has been working in the field of theatre and social change for 35 years, in the UK and abroad. The majority of that time has been in the women’s sector for Clean Break, which she joined in 2002 as Head of Education. She became the Joint Artistic Director / Joint CEO in 2018, and sole Artistic Director in 2022. Anna is co-author of Making a Leap: Theatre of Empowerment: A Practical Handbook for Creative Drama Work with Young People (Jessica Kingsley Publishers) and has written for numerous other publications on the work of Clean Break. She has an MA in Arts Education from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, where she was awarded an Honorary Fellowship in 2022. She also has a PG Cert (Distinction) in Race and Ethnic relations from Birkbeck University. She is a visiting lecturer on Applied Theatre courses at universities across the country, a trained coach and between 2006 and 2018 was a trustee of Leap Confronting Conflict; a UK based national charity specialising in youth and conflict. Anna has been involved in an advisory role for the NCJAA for 15 years and is passionate about the arts ability to advance social and racial justice.
