SUMMARY:The Other Side of the Wall - three day training course
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 19th – Friday 21st September 2018\nBirmingham\n£330 \nThe Other Side of the Wall (TOSOW) is a three-day course from Geese Theatre Company which invites participants to experience and practise a variety of theatre and drama-based methods for use in groupwork. \n\nIn 2016\, National Criminal Justice Arts Alliance members were asked ‘which training courses they found to be impactful for the sector’s needs.’ Geese Theatre Company was mentioned five times as often as other providers. In particular\, their TOSOW course was listed as particularly valuable. \nThe focus of TOSOW is on exploring some of the basic principles behind the company’s use of drama with people in prison and community settings\, offering workers effective and widely applicable techniques in order to: \n\nCross over the ‘wall’ and explore with the prison group participants’ experience of the world.\nAssist prison group participants in identifying patterns of behaviour and exploring new strategies for change.\nIdentify and assist in the development of interpersonal skills.\nCreate an environment where safe and relevant experiential learning can take place.\n\nNo previous drama or theatre experience is necessary\, however a willingness to actively explore new methods of working is an essential requirement. \n\nClick here to find out more and book your place

SUMMARY:Tales from the digital underground
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 13 September 2018\n6 – 9pm\nCentral Saint Martins\, London\nFREE \nBook now \n\nStretch Charity is characterised by an innovative arts and storytelling agenda that has proven successful in prisons and community projects for over a decade. \nOver the past three years\, their Big Lottery-funded Stretch Digital project has been an early pioneer in terms of introducing creative digital technology into the prison estate. There will be time for further discussions with drinks provided. \nSpaces are limited so please register your interest as soon as possible here \n\nImage courtesy of Stretch Charity

SUMMARY:Open Clasp present Rattle Snake 2018 UK tour
DESCRIPTION:New play tackling coercive controlling domestic abuse from the makers of critically-acclaimed prison drama Key Change \nSoho Theatre\n8-19 May\nFrom £10\nBook here \nNational Tour\nDates in May and June\nBook here \n\nThe follow up to the critically-acclaimed Key Change\, Rattle Snake is written by Catrina McHugh MBE\, Open Clasp\, and directed by Charlotte Bennett\, associate director at Soho Theatre. \nThe play is based on real life stories of women who have faced and survived coercive controlling domestic abuse. \nCoinciding with the change in UK law in 2015 making coercive control in relationships a crime\, Rattle Snake was originally developed as part of a training programme for frontline police officers in Durham. \n“This play was an innovative approach to training here in Durham. It provided front-line officers with a unique opportunity to learn through theatre\, so that they would further understand coercive control in domestic abuse\, and the day-to-day incidents which victims suffer though this appalling crime.” \n– Durham Police\, Crime & Victims’ Commissioner Ron Hogg \nAs with Key Change\, which was created with women serving at HMP Low Newton in County Durham\, Rattle Snake was inspired by the women who put their trust in Open Clasp to tell their stories. \nWriter and Artistic Director Catrina McHugh MBE explains: \n“Officers sat in bullet proof vests\, daring us to make an impact and we did. During its premier in 2017\, an audience member said they had never felt such a visceral response to a show before\, a collective intake of breath\, unable to turn away or to predict what was next.” \nWatch a 30 second trailer here \n\nOpen Clasp make truthful\, risk-taking and award-winning theatre informed by the lived experiences of working class women\, women disenfranchised in theatre and society\, those from minority communities and women affected by the criminal justice system. They take a special interest in women and young women from the North of England\, shining a light on their experiences through our work. \nSee more on their website here
